Backyard Bird Shop

Each April and May well-intentioned people find a baby owl on the ground and bring it to our Wildlife Care Center, not realizing that they are actually separating the owlet from its parents.

People get nervous if they see a baby owl on the ground, thinking that it needs help. Have no fear! When young owls leave the nest, they spend time on the ground and can actually climb back up trees using their talons. And all the while, the parents are caring for their young.

If you see an owl and are concerned, please call our Wildlife Care Center before you intervene so we can help you make the right call for the well-being of the bird: 503-292-0304
