Elaine

Elaine’s interest in the natural world began thirty-some years ago when making regular visits to the ducks at Commonwealth Lake Park with her 3-year-old daughter. Since then, not only did Elaine learn more about birds, she launched her own business in which she guides walks, teaches all kinds of natural history classes and hosts nature-themed birthday parties.

Elaine began leading bird walks for Backyard Bird Shop soon after our first store opened. As a guide, she does more than identify birds. Elaine points out animal tracks, excavations in trees and other natural artifacts along the trail and shares what bird or animal left these clues and why.

Proudly, Elaine has participated in Portland Audubon’s Birdathon every year for the past 30 years and is a key member of our Retail Hawks Birdathon team.

Elaine shares her knowledge cheerfully and skillfully with students of all ages. It is no surprise that Elaine is recognized and cherished by many. Her passion for nature and her love of people is evident by her dedication and enthusiasm.
